Gucci Osteria Seoul da Massimo Bottura


It was March beginning of spring. To celebrate my friend’s birthday, I visited Gucci osteria Seoul da Massimo Bottura. I’ve heard it opened a few years ago and expected a bit much.

Entering the restaurant, I was welcomed by sophisticated green-colored Interior but cozy atmosphere. I found the concept of the color and interior was just like Gucci.

What a lovely color! By the way, do you know meaning of the eye symbol?

The eye symbol used by Gucci is often associated with their creative director Alessandro Michele’s fascination with the mystique and the occult. The eye motif can be found in various Gucci collections, often depicted in a surreal or whimsical manner. In many cultures, the eye symbolizes protection, insight, and intuition, and its use in Gucci’s designs can be interpreted in various ways, from warding off negative energies to symbolizing a deeper understanding or awareness. Ultimately, its meaning may be open to individual interpretation and may vary depending on the context in which it is used within Gucci’s designs.

I was waiting for my friend coming to the restaurant. The waitress kindly asked me if I want to listen to explanation about menu now or later with my friend. So I answered her to want to listen to it later with my company. As my friend arrived, we decided to get signature tasting 7-courses.

I was treated delicious amuse bouches before the main course. Firstly, hibiscus cold soup tasted sweet and a bit sour, like Omija tea or hibiscus tea. Additionally, honey-marinated Jindallae flower was very unique.

Secondly, a fried mezzelune was placed on top of the upside-down cup. It was filled with naeng-i and cheese inside a mezzelune.

Thirdly, there were tiny tarts with tuna and herbs. I have been wondering about the name of the green herbs that resemble three-leaf clovers or small maple leaves. It is a pleasure to admire the tiny art on the plate.

The bread was served. I shouldn’t have eaten all of them before the main course. The longer ones were especially crunchy and enjoyable to eat.

Profumo – Gambero Rosso, Raspberry, Bergamot

Am I the only one to be curious about the Italian menu?
If not, let’s dig into all the Italian words on the menu.

“Profumo” is an Italian word that translates to “perfume” in English. It refers to a fragrant liquid typically applied to the skin or clothing to emit a pleasant scent. In Italian, “profumo” can also refer to any pleasant smell or fragrance, not just those used for personal adornment.

Farinata – Buckwheat, Stracciatella, Cherry tomato, Seasonal salad

“Farinata” is an Italian term that typically refers to a type of savory pancake or flatbread made from chickpea flour, water, olive oil, salt, and sometimes additional ingredients like herbs or vegetables. It originates from Liguria, a region in northwest Italy, and it’s also known as “cecina” in some areas. Farinata has a slightly crispy exterior and a creamy, custard-like interior. It’s often enjoyed as a snack or appetizer in Italy and can be seasoned with various herbs and spices to enhance its flavor.

Under the Sea – Conchiglie, Abalone, Cacciucco, Seaweed

The food tasted like the sea. I was kind of shocked by the abalone because it was very soft, almost like it was melting in my mouth.

Brezza Verde – Cappelletti, Peas, Asparagus, Herbs

It was a hidden menu at the moment. A special treat always makes people happy.

Oh! there’s new Italian words. “Brezza Verde” translate to “Green Breeze” in Italian.

From Livorno to Gaok – Tilefish, Livornese Sauce

Livorno is a port city on the western coast of Tuscany, Italy, on the Ligurian Sea. It’s known for its bustling harbor, Renaissance-era fortifications, and vibrant seafood restaurants.

“Livornese sauce,” also known as “salsa livornese” in Italian, is a traditional Italian tomato-based sauce named after Livorno, the port city in Tuscany, Italy. It typically consists of tomatoes, olive oil, garlic, capers, and sometimes olives and anchovies. This sauce is commonly used in Italian cuisine, particularly with seafood dishes such as Livornese-style fish stew (Cacciucco alla Livornese), which is a famous dish from the Livorno region. The sauce is known for its robust and tangy flavor, which pairs well with various types of fish and seafood.

Bistecca Fiorita – Hanwoo Tenderloin, Morel Mushroom, Naeng-i, Balsamic


“Bistecca Fiorita” translates to “Flower Steak” in English. This term could be used to describe a steak dish that is garnished or served with edible flowers or herbs, adding both visual appeal and additional flavors to the dish. Which one would be the flower? Naeng-i or Mushroom?

Tempo Sereno – Yogurt, Golden apple, Lemon, Banga Leaf

“Tempo sereno” translates to “clear weather” or “fair weather” in English. It refers to weather conditions characterized by clear skies, little to no precipitation, and generally pleasant atmospheric conditions.

Charley Marley – Cacao, Vanila Ganache, Caramel, Milk Gelato

“Charley Marley” likely refers to a dish inspired by the chef’s son, Charlie, and features his favorite ingredients.

When I made the reservation, I noted that it was my friend’s birthday. They provided this lovely cake and lettering service.
